The Story of Emily's Birth

Labor started early Sunday morning before church and conveniently stopped early enough so that I could get ready for church. We were having a BBQ after church and I had told Katelyn that the "Jumpy Thing" would be there, so we did not want her to miss that.

Contractions started again after supper and went all through the night. I think I may have fallen asleep a couple times as they were usually about 15 minutes apart, but I really did not get much rest. I found out later that I'd had back labor, where the baby's spine was pressing against mine, so I guess that is why it seemed a little more painful than last time.

We left for the hospital around 7:30 in the morning (Monday); I told my husband I felt a little silly for going so early as my contractions we still seven minutes apart, but with our family history of fast labors I thought we better go soon.

Once we got to the hospital and checked in at 8:15 am, things went very quickly. I was six centimeters dilated when they first checked, but nine centimeters at the next check 15 minutes later. At that point the nurse called on a few other nurses to get the delivery room ready and an IV in my arm (just in case). No time for any pain medications, again, but at least the doctor made it this time. Emily was born at 9:30 am.
